The epitope residues were derived by sequencing the N-terminal region of 55K fragments of proteins isolated from schizont and merozoite lysates.
High antibody titers against the SPf66 chimeric protein and its constituent peptides were achieved following vaccination with the SPf66 vaccine. This epitope was recognized by all immunized animals tested in Leticia, Colombia. However, a totally different response were observed in a trial carried out at the CDC in Atlanta where sera from SPf66-immunized monkeys (5/5) exclusively recognized the 35.1 epitope.
