The epitope residues were derived by sequencing the N-terminal region of 55K fragments of proteins isolated from schizont and merozoite lysates.
In a trial carried out at the CDC in Atlanta, sera from SPf66-immunized monkeys exclusively recognized the 35.1 epitope. This is in contrast to those tested in Leticia, Colombia, where high antibody titers against all of the SPf66 constituent peptides were achieved. This is likely due to the difference in immunization protocol. Similar results were observed in western blot analysis.
