Of the 19 anti-HCMV IgM positive serum samples tested, 6 recognized the fusion protein containing this epitope, 1 of which did so strongly. The reactivity towards a fusion protein where a 2nd epitope from this HCMV protein was also present was higher than the sum of the reactivities to the individually expressed epitopes, as did the expression of tandem repeats of this epitope.
