name:
Direct lysis of Trypanosoma cruzi: a novel effector mechanism of protection mediated by human anti-gal antibodies.
description:
The epitope is present in T. cruzi trypomastigote surface and in several mammal proteins, such and mouse laminin.
Laminin purified antibody fractions (majority was the epitope specific) from acute Chagas' disease patients had direct lytic activity on trypomastigotes, but not that from chronic patients or healthy donors. Similar results were observed for inhibition of infectivity of T. cruzi trypomastigotes.
