The epitope alpha-D-Galp-(1-2)-D-Galp is ubiquitously presented in various species, such as in the trypomastigote and epimastigote sonicates of T. cruzi.
Only sonicates, but not intact parasites, of T cruzi were able to remove epitope specific activity indicating masking of reactive epitope in intact parasites.
