name:
B-cell epitopes in hypervariable region 1 of hepatitis C virus obtained from patients with chronic persistent hepatitis.
description:
The peptide is an analog of the consensus sequence (residues 396-402) from a variable region in hypervariable domain 1 (HVR1) within the N-terminus of the HCV E2 protein. The epitope matches a natural sequence (residues 57-63 of GenBank accession no. 68236148).
After treatment with IFN-alpha2b, serum from a patient with chronic HCV recognized this analog epitope. The pre- and post-IFN serum from the patient were tested against a panel of 143 substituted analogs of the consensus peptide TSGLTSL. The patient's sera did not react with the consensus peptide.
