description:
Cytomplasmic extracts of COS-1 cells transfected with plasmids expressing HSV-1 gD mutants were used to identify conformational binding sites. A single amino acid change at position 216 (Ser to Asn) abrogated reactivity with the mAb LP2. A combination of mutations at positions 132, 140 and/or 216 was found to be lethal to the virus.
