The epitope sequence was deduced through study of maltose binding protein-E2 fusion proteins and overlapping peptides. This mAb is able to bind a recombinant E2 (N-ter 278-aa) in ELISA, but not if it is bound to human CD81-expressing Rat basophilic leukemia (RBL) cells, and E2-mAb preincubation inhibits the E2-CD81-RBL interaction. This data suggest this region is involved in E2-CD81 interaction.
