name:
Selection of peptides recognized by human antibodies against the surface of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes.
description:
This peptide is a potentially a mimotope of P.falciparum-infected erythrocytes membrane antigens, but no homology to described antigens is reported. A library of phage displayed random 7-mers was panned. Each peptide includes cysteine residues at bothe ends to constrain the conformation of the displayed peptide.
The phage clone containing this peptide was selected by panning the phage display library with antibodies from P.falciparum infected individuals affinity purified for recognition of P.falciparum FCR-3 infected infected erythrocytes. After selection, this phage is shown to be specifically recognized by the IgG fraction of sera from infected individuals in 2 independent populations (Africa and Thailand).
