Vaccination by cholera toxin conjugated to a herpes simplex virus type 2 glycoprotein D peptide.
|
| description: |
Mice immunized with the gD(1-23)-CTX conjugate were protected (60-70%) from a lethal i.p. and intravaginal challenge with HSV-2. Thus, ip/ip or ip/ig immunization with the epitope conjugate elicits antiviral antibody in vaginal washings and correlates with significant protection from lethal i.v. challenge with HSV-2. A cysteine was added to the C-terminus of the peptide to facilitate the conjugation of CTX or horse spleen ferritin.
