The complete recombinant C2II toxin component, its active form (after tryptic activation), and fragments of it that include domain 4 where this epitope is located, can be detected by anti-peptide antisera. Nevertheless, the oligomeric form of active C2II is not detected suggesting that in the oligomer this epitope is hidden or in a conformation not accessible to the specific antibodies.
