The epitope was obtained by panning a random peptide library with antisera raised against EHV-1. The epitope has homologous sequence to EHV-1 glycoprotein C region 46-51 (NLTTAH) The epitope was selected from a phage display library.
The phage clone containing the epitope was selected by immuno-panning with anti-EHV-1 (strain RAC-H) equine serum. It was further confirmed to bind 6 out of 6 EHV-1 (strain AB4) infected ponies sera as well, while no significant binding by EHV-4 infected sera was observed. Also, the free peptide was synthesized and its reactivity was confirmed.
