The epitope was obtained by panning a random peptide library with antisera raised against EHV-1. The epitope has homology to EHV-1 glycoprotein G residues 327-335 (PEVAHLRSV). The epitope was selected from a phage display library.
The phage clone containing the epitope was selected by immuno-panning with equine antiserum from a gnotobiotic foal infected with EHV-1 strain RAC-H and confirmed by ELISA to have specific recognition by its selecting serum.
