name:
High-affinity antibody induced by immunization with a synthetic peptide is associated with protection of cattle against foot-and-mouth disease.
description:
This synthetic peptide is comprised of two epitopes (aa 200-213 and 141-158) derived from the VP1 protein of the O1 Kaufbeuren strain of FMDV joined by a PPS linker and flanked by CC on the amino terminus and PCG on the carboxy terminus. A blast search shows that these sequences correspond to amino acids 924-937 and 865-882, respectively, of GI:130448.
Antibodies in sera from animals protected from challenge had a higher affinity for FMDV than in sera from unprotected animals. This difference was seen at 14 days post-immunization increasing up to 25 days (last assessment).
