This residues are shown to constitute or influence the epitope recognized by mAb 10B8, specific for viral hemagglutinin. This is an Influenza B / Victoria group specific epitope.
Because this neutralization assay, as well as the hemagglutinin inhibition assay and the PAP tests were all negative for the virus variants harboring single mutations the mutated residues were presumed to constitute or influence the epitope.
