Highly glycosylated human salivary molecules present oligosaccharides that mediate adhesion of leukocytes and Helicobacter pylori.
|
| description: |
The sialyl Lewis X tetrasaccharide is expressed on the glycans of several human glycoproteins, including the high-molecular weight salivary mucin MG1 (Mucin 5B), the low-molecular weight salivary mucin MG2 (Mucin 7) and the salivary agglutinin.
The epitope specific mAb bound salivary proteins found in human saliva. Salivary proteins were separated by electrophoresis and analyzed for binding to mAb. The epitope is found to be expressed on mucins MG1 and MG2 and on salivary agglutinin; the specific pattern and level of expression on these proteins is different for each of the donors.
