name:
Antigenic epitopes of the hepatitis A virus polyprotein.
description:
This peptide is part of an immunoreactive domain (aas 501-526 in the viral polyprotein sequence) with significant specific reactivity with acute-phase sera samples. Swiss-prot ID and positions correspond to the genome polyprotein, not to the mature source protein.
30.4% of acute phase sera recognize this peptide while 0% of normal human sera samples do. Region 502-516, partially overlapping with this peptide, was shown previously to elicit HAV neutralizing antibodies. Analysis of reactivity of seroconversion panels from humans or chimpanzees (not shown) reveals that the reactivity seen is short lasting, correlating with an acute phase indicator (ALT levels).
