Structural differences among hemagglutinins of influenza A virus subtypes are reflected in their antigenic architecture: analysis of H9 escape mutants.
|
| description: |
Key residues were identified by sequencing viral escape mutants of a mouse-adapted influenza A/Swine/Hong Kong/9/98 (H9N2) virus that were selected with a panel of ten monoclonal antibodies to the hemagglutinin of three H9N2 strains. The pattern of resistance revealed the presence of two minimally overlapping epitopes, I and II, each consisting of several amino acid positions. Some antibodies interacted with parts of both antigenic areas. The amino acid position numbers for the H9 subtype of HA were taken from Table 3.
In addition to G9-6, other mAbs tested that recognized epitope I included 15F1, G9-27, G1-26, G1-29, G9-25 and 18G4.
