This epitope, when bound to KLH, was shown in truncation analysis to be the minimum-length peptide from the C-terminal 24 amino-acid residues of HA capable of eliciting antibody that could bind to the parent 24-mer. The binding of the antibodies to the parent 24-mer was inhibited by the homologous 24-mer from the H2 HA of influenza A virus (A/Japan/305/57).
