This residues are part of Antigenic Site Ca1, which is located at the opposite site in the HA monomer from Site Ca2, but lies in proximity of it when the trimer is assembled, presenting a cleft which spans the monomer-monomer boundary and which that is operationally defined as the antigenic site Ca.
