Mapping of antigenic sites involved in neutralization on the capsid protein of feline calicivirus.
|
| description: |
This is a critical residue for the binding of the monoclonal antibodies 4B1, 10F9 and 16C10 to the capsid protein of feline calcivirus (FCV) F4 strain.
The monoclonal antibodies 4B1, 10F9 and 16C10 neutralize feline calcivirus F4 strain; antibody escape mutants were isolated and the cDNAs for the capsid protein were sequenced revealing a mutation at nucleotide position 1342 (G to C) which transforms the alanine (A) at position 448 to proline (P). This is causative of the loss of binding, and, thus, is a critical residue of the epitope. The antibody 4B1 crossreacts with other FCV strains: F1, F5, F14 and F25. The antibodies 10F9 and 16C10 crossreact with other FCV strains: F1, F5, F6, F8, F14, F25, FC, CFI and 337.
