name:
A completely synthetic toxoid vaccine containing Escherichia coli heat-stable toxin and antigenic determinants of the heat-labile toxin B subunit.
description:
The immunogenicity of this peptide in monomeric form was evaluted by immunizing rats with this material given either alone or conjugated to a high-molecular-weight carrier, porcine IgG. The conjugated peptide raised titers of intestinal IgA antitoxin to heat-stable toxin and provided protection against challenge with the viable LT+/ST- strain. The peptide was also shown to be non-toxic. Twice the dose was necessary to achieve this level of protection in mice immunized by the peroral route only.
