description:	In experiments in this manuscript, a C-terminal cysteine was added to the epitope to facilitate coupling to carrier proteins in a synthetic peptide vaccine design. Sera from epitope-immunized rabbits reacted positively with the epitope (peptide) as well as cross-reacted (weakly) with a peptide ( SM5(235-264): KEQKKSKQNIGALKQELAKKDEANKISDASR) sharing 30% homology with the epitope and which comes from the same source protein.
