description:	In experiments in this manuscript, a C-terminal cysteine was added to the epitope to facilitate coupling to carrier proteins in a synthetic peptide vaccine design. Sera from humans diagnosed with acute rheumatic fever (ARF), from an outbreak in Utah (Veasay et al., 1987), reacted positively to the epitope (peptide) in an ELISA assay.
