Positive IgA responses were seen against a construct (B4T1) including this B cell epitope linked to by two G residues to a T helper epitope from the same protein F1, in sera from outbred mice immunized with that construct entrapped in a poly-DL-lactide-co-glycolide (PLG) microparticle. Lower but consistent titers were obtained for secreted IgA in intestinal washes. Similar responses were obtained by the use of 2 different Thelper epitopes as part of the construct (T1: VNGENLVGDDVVLAT or T2: TGSQDFFVRSIG). The response obtained by the intranasal route is not attained by intramuscular immunization.
