Epitope mapping was performed with rabies virus N protein-specific monoclonal antibodies. The epitopes of MAbs 6-4 and 13-27 were previously shown to be included in antigenic site I and MAb 12-2 recognized an epitope overlapped between site I and II. Deletion mutant studies and amino acid comparisons with other MAb-reactive rabies and rabies-related viruses led to the synthesis of this octamer peptide which was shown to react with the MAbs.
