name:
Development of a plant-derived subunit vaccine candidate against hepatitis C virus.
description:
The HCV HRV1 peptide is a cross-reactive mimotope of the Hepatitis C virus envelope protein which antigenically mimics a large number of natural HCV HVR1 variants.
Western blot analysis of N. Benthamiana plants infected with TMV/CTB-HRV1 vector was performed to screen CTB-HRV1 recombinant proteins against sera from HCV-infected individuals. Membranes were probed with sera from HCV-positive individuals and included specificity to types 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b and 4. Seven of the 7 individual sera tested reacted with the recombinant protein. The molecular weight of the band produced on the membrane was consistent with that of the CTB-HRV1 fusion protein visualized previously.
