Discontinuous antigenic determinants were revealed for the E2 glycoprotein of VEE and EEE using escape-variant viruses generated by cross-reactive monoclonal antibodies. The GenBank ID provided for the EEE virus is the closest (not exact) match following BLAST search.
Discontinuous epitopes were identified using mAbs to generate viral variants capable of escaping neutralization or protection. MAb 2D4 demonstrated binding, neutralizing, hemagglutinin inhibition and protective activity against VEE, as well as EEE.
