The N-terminal of the peptide was acetylated to avoid an unnatural charge.
The reactions of a panel of 34 mouse mAbs specific for the dengue-2 virus nonstructural-1 glycoprotein, were analyzed using 174 overlapping synthetic nonameric peptides covering the entire sequence. The alanine at position 5 was shown to be a key residue as binding was significantly reduced when it was substituted with valine. Similar results were shown with the homologous peptide from dengue virus type 4.
