| description: |
The amino acid sequences are provided in Pevear et al. (1987) J Virol 61:1507, and the positions were confirmed by the author. The paper references amino acid positions of the processed VP3 peptide, whereas the sequence source database uses the amino acid positions of the genomic polyprotein from which the peptide is derived.
The epitope was deduced using overlapping λgt11 fusion proteins containing fragments of the VP3 protein. Antisera reacted positively with VP3 aa 14-49 and negatively with VP3 aa 46-79, defining the limits of this epitope. The authors further limit the epitope to VP3 aa 24-43. Reactivity to this epitope was only seen in subcutaneously immunized BALB/c mice.
