Anti-ganglioside antibodies were detected using thin layer chromatography immuno-staining assay. None of the patients had IgG antibodies against asialo-GM1, GM2, or GT1b or IgA or IgM antibodies against any gangliosides. For all the sera positive for recognition of a ganglioside, cross-reactivity towards C. jejuni LPS could be demonstrated, while non-ganglioside reactive srea failed to recognize the LPS.
