name:
Epitope mapping of the Sta58 major outer membrane protein of Rickettsia tsutsugamushi.
description:
This peptide is recognized with significantly higher reactivity in 9 out of 9 scrub typhus patients serum than in normal serum. Also, it is recognized with significantly lower reactivity in other febrile illnesses - that share geographic distribution with scrub typhus - such as dengue, leptospirosis, typhoid fever and malaria. The isotype specificicity of the reactivity is shown to be mainly of IgM type in 2 out of 3 selected acute scrub typhus patients, while the 3rd has similar IgG and IgM reactivity. Low specific IgA reactivity is seen.
