name:
Identification of epitope and surface-exposed domains of Shigella flexneri invasion plasmid antigen D (IpaD).
description:
This experiment was performed with antisera produced against purified IpaD. The sera were screened against a late-log-phase culture of virulent S. flexneri 5 to capture the surface reactive antibodies. Once eluted from the intact bacteria, the surface-reactive antibodies were used in the multipin ELISA to identify the peptide epitope sequences of IpaD that were exposed on the surface of the bacterium. This epitope was found not to be accessible to antibody in intact shigellae.
