Monoclonal antibody against a peptide of human prion protein discriminates between Creutzfeldt-Jacob's disease-affected and normal brain tissue.
|
| description: |
The monoclonal antibody (V5B2) did not react on Western Blot analysis with extracts from Creutzfeldt-Jacob's disease (CJD) and non-CJD brains. In further assays, the mAb was found not to react with any form of recombinant prion protein. The authors conclude that the C-terminal part of prion protein in diseases-associated pathological prion isoform aggregates forms a structural epitope whose conformation is distinct from that of cellular prion protein.
