name:
Epitope mapping of the Syrian hamster prion protein utilizing chimeric and mutant genes in a vaccinia virus expression system.
description:
These are critical residues for the binding of the monoclonal antibody 7D4 to an epitope (not yet completely defined) on the source protein (Syrian hamster prion protein (PrP)).
The monoclonal antibody 7D4 binds to the epitope source protein. Substitution of the critical residues, N155 and N170, by the creation of a recombinant protein containing parts of the epitope source protein and a homologous mouse protein, abrogates binding.
