A pepscan analysis (of ovine PrP) was employed to identify the epitope of the monoclonal antibody P4. Overlapping peptides that give the common core sequence, WGQGGSH (residues 93-99), bound to the antibody. A peptide containing this sequence blocked the binding of P4 to immobilized ovine PrP in a western blot.
