Immune response to GOR, a marker for non-A, non-B hepatitis and its correlation with hepatitis C virus infection.
description:
Antibodies to spGOR2 were detected in sera from 8 of 39 patients with post transfusion non-A, non-B hepatitis (NANBH) and 15 of 42 other NANBH patients, and correlated with the presence of antibodies to hepatitis C virus found in 42 of all 81 NANBH patients. Antibodies to spGOR2 were also detected in sera from patients with chronic hepatitis (7 of 18). The prevalence was lower in patients with hepatitis A (1/26), hepatitis D (1/4), or acute or chronic hepatitis B (8/99) and in a normal donor population (6/215) or patients with nonhepatic disease, but still showed a correlation with the presence of HCV antibodies. Most patient samples with antibodies to spGOR2 also responded to peptide spGOR346 from the same host protein. The authors conclude that the autoimmune response to GOR appears to be triggered during HCV infection.
