Borreliacidal OspC antibodies specific for a highly conserved epitope are immunodominant in human lyme disease and do not occur in mice or hamsters.

| description: |
The amino acid sequence of OspC C7 of B. burgdorferi sensu stricto (50772) was obtained from Jobe DA et al. Clin Diag Lab Immunol 2003
10:573.
Early lyme disease patient sera was reacted against B. burgdorferi before and after adsorptions with the full OspC protein, the C16 fragment and the C7 fragment to determine the ability of these peptides to block reactivity. Binding to the C16 and C7 OspC fragments almost completely removed the antibodies detected by Western blot analysis.
