Serum samples from 11 Sudanese pediatric patients with acute hepatitis E diagnosed by Western blot assay were pooled and tested. The optical density (anti-IgG and IgM) which was 3-fold higher than that of pooled control sera from non-acute hepatitis E patients was selected as positive. The epitope was re-assembled with at least two adjacent 10-mer peptides that were considered positive.
