description:	This peptide aligns with residues 108-111 of the murine PrP sequence. MAb 3F4, which binds to the epitope, immunoprecipitated Prp^c, with or without prior denaturation in SDS, from brain lysates of uninoculated transgenic mice expressing WT mouse PrP tagged with the MAb 3F4 epitope. MAb 3F4 reacted poorly with PrP^sc from brain lysates of Tg(PG14) transgenic mice expressing mutant, epitope-tagged mouse PrP, which causes a spontaneous fatal neurodegenerative illness, or Tg(PG14) mice injected with the RML isolate of scrapie. After denaturation in SDS, however, the MAb efficiently immunoprecipitated PrP^sc from both transgenic mouse groups. This confirms that the epitope becomes inaccessible during the conversion of PrP^c to PrP^sc.
