name:
Expression of tumor-associated Thomsen-Friedenreich antigen (T Ag) in Helicobacter pylori and modulation of T Ag specific immune response in infected individuals.
description:
The T antigen (B-D-Galp-(1-3)-a-D-GalNacp) is the carbohydrate moiety in glycoprotein(s) present in human carcinomas. In Helicobacter pylori extracts the T antigen is detected in ~68 and ~58 kDa protein bands in a western blot.
Anti-epitope antibodies were found in sera of H. pylori-seropositive as well as seronegative blood donors. A lower titre of anti-epitope antibodies was found in gastric cancer patients (both H. pylori-seropositive and negative) compared with blood donors, but for these patients a higher titre of anti-epitope antibodies was found in the H. pylori seropositives compared with seronegatives. In blood donors, the level of epitope-specific antibodies correlated positively with anti-H. pylori antibody level; in contrast, no correlation between epitope-specific and anti-H. pylori antibody levels were found in gastric cancer patients (H. pylori-seropositive or negative).
