The protective effect of mAb 2-40 against PrP 106-126 fibril formation was studied using characteristic birefringence under polarized light upon binding of amyloid to Congo red. Preincubation of the peptide with mAb 2-40 resulted in substantially decreased amounts of amyloid when compared to incubation of the peptide alone.
