name:
Comparative characterization of antigenic epitopes in the immunodominant region of the protein encoded by open reading frame 3 in Burmese and Mexican strains of hepatitis E virus.
description:
The sequence is from the C-terminal region of the HEV ORF 3 protein.
Human anti-HEV sera from an outbreak in Turkmenistan in 1985 were assayed against a panel of overlapping hexamer sequences covering residues 91-123 of the ORF 3 protein of HEV strain Burma. A Lys residue was added to the N terminus and 2 Gly residues were added to the C terminus of the hexamers to improve solubility and plate adsorption. Almost 40% of anti-HEV(T) sera (n = 16) reacted with the epitope. B22 was recognized by 8 of 37 anti-HEV sera from outbreaks in Mexico, Turkmenistan, and Kenya and contains the most immunoreactive strain-specific epitope in this region.
