Antigenic features of prion proteins of sheep and of other mammalian species.

| description: |
Anti peptide 40-56, a monospecific polyclonal antibody raised in rabbits, recognizes PrPCof various species. This antibody reacted with sheep, goat, cow, man, pig, dog, cat, mink, hamster and mouse PrP, but not with guinea pig PrPC.It also reacts with sheep, cow, hamster and mouse PrPScin the absence of proteinase k treatment. Only mouse brain homogenates treated with proteinase k showed a weak reactivity with the antiboby. In addition, in antibody competition assays, when antisera were preabsorbed to the peptide prior to immunoblotting, no specific binding to PrPCwas observed.
