description:	Anti peptide 40-56, a monospecific polyclonal antibody raised in rabbits, recognizes PrP^Cof various species. This antibody reacted with sheep, goat, cow, man, pig, dog, cat, mink, hamster and mouse PrP, but not with guinea pig PrP^C.It also reacts with sheep, cow, hamster and mouse PrP^Scin the absence of proteinase k treatment. Only mouse brain homogenates treated with proteinase k showed a weak reactivity with the antiboby.In addition, in antibody competition assays, when antisera were preabsorbed to the peptide prior to immunoblotting, no specific binding to PrP^Cwas observed.
