Preimmunization samples, medium without serum, and viral-like particles (VLPs) were used as negative controls. Serum samples were collected at day 71. Samples from mice immunized with the recombinant B19 VLPs tandem (TD) epitope showed higher neutralizing activity than the group immunized with the single (SE) epitope. Mice immunized with the KLH-conjugated SE epitope showed low levels of neutralizing activity. Overall, the highest titers were obtained from mice immunized with the recombinant 352-368 TD and 386-397 TD, followed by VLPs displaying SE epitopes and the full length domain BIII.
