Epitope mapping of antibodies directed against hypervariable region 1 in acute self-limiting and chronic infections due to hepatitis C virus.

| description: |
The peptide represents the hypervariable region 1 of a minor HCV-AD78 variant.
This peptide represents a minor variant of hypervariable region 1 of isolate HCV-AD78. Reactivity was determined using sera from patients infected with HCV-AD78 who developed chronic infections. The peptide was recognized with the same frequency in acutely-infected patients. Further epitope mapping using overlapping peptides spanning this peptide was also performed and antibodies were found to be directed mainly against the C-terminus of this peptide. Similar reactivity patterns were found in chronically infected patients not affected by the HCV-AD78 outbreak.
