Overlapping peptides were synthesized from the mature streptococcal M5 protein.
Anti-M5 peptide mouse sera was tested for reactivity against human cardiac myosin. Immunization with this peptide generated high titer myosin-cross reactivity. This reactivity was confirmed by Western blot analysis and was shown to be specific to cardiac muscle.
