| name: |
Towards a vaccine for rheumatic fever: identification of a conserved target epitope on M protein of group A streptococci.
|
| description: |
Overlapping 20-mer peptides representing the conserved region (residues 145-159) of the M5 protein of S. pyogenes were synthesized to identify a broadly reactive target epitope
Bactericidal activity ranging from 79%-100% was obtained against all naturally-occurring isolates of M serotypes using the anti-peptide 145 sera. Lower inhibition was observed against some of the reference strains. Bactericidal activity correlated with the level of anti-p145 measured by ELISA.
