name:
Antibody responses to hepatitis C virus hypervariable region 1: evidence for cross-reactivity and immune-mediated sequence variation.
description:
The sequence is from hypervariable region 1 (HVR1
amino acids 391-406) of the HCV E2 protein from the dominant sequence isolated from HCV-infected patient C at baseline.
The epitope sequence was derived from a patient with chronic HCV type 1b infection after 1-year follow-up. The patient's sera reacted with the epitope and peptide P20, the sequence of which was derived from another infected patient (genotyep 2 a/c) and shares 4 positions. Binding of the patient's sera to the epitope was inhibited 24.9% by absorption of the sera with immobilized peptide P20. The authors conclude that the sera contain variant-specific and cross-reactive antibodies. Cross-reactivity was not related to the number of homologous residues between peptides.
