name:
Antibody responses to hepatitis C virus hypervariable region 1: evidence for cross-reactivity and immune-mediated sequence variation.
description:
The sequence is from hypervariable region 1 (HVR1
amino acids 391-406) of the HCV E2 protein from the dominant sequence isolated from HCV-infected patient C at baseline.
A patient's sera cross-reacted with the epitope and with peptide P10, the sequence of which was derived from another patient and shares 6 positions. Binding of the patient's sera to the epitope was not inhibited by absorption of the sera with immobilized peptide P10. The authors conclude that the sera contain variant-specific and cross-reactive antibodies. Cross-reactivity was not related to the number of homologous residues between peptides.
